This and That

The Chicago Cow Parade

Cows have been a part of Chicago history for many years. From the well known Chicago Stockyards, to the story of Mrs. O’Leary’s (ultimately vindicated) cow starting the Great Chicago Fire.

The Cow Parade was an outdoor art exhibition, featuring 300 colorfully painted fiberglass cows, displayed throughout the city, in 1999.

Since it’s inception, there have been over 80 Cow Parades, and 10,000 participating artists, worldwide.

The exhibitions have also raised $30 million dollars for various charitable organizations, as the cows are auctioned after each event.
